Five underexploited UGC formats for consumer apps

gist
A shared LightReel research chat ranks five TikTok formats where the app makes the content instead of being reviewed in it. AI-generated "evidence" text pranks lead at about twice the baseline median breakout, followed by shock-face reveals of a number, TV-character text carousels, apps scoring famous characters and faceless fake phone screens. Each format has only one to three apps running it in English. The figures come from LightReel's own TikTok database and are unaudited.
ideas
- The app is the cause, not the subject. Winning formats show the app generating a fake photo, writing a reply, outputting a score or calculating pay. Talk-to-camera reviews and screen-recording walkthroughs sit flat at about 1.0 to 1.16 median breakout.
- Pranks are a volume lottery. Cantina's small "_.pranks" accounts post a 48-second template: a disaster hook, the app generating the scene, then a parent escalating over iMessage. Posts usually draw 5,000 to 7,000 views, and roughly one in ten reaches 200,000 to 1.4 million.
- Hide the app mid-story. Plug AI's 30-slide carousels alternate Dexter or Patrick Jane stills with chat screenshots and show the app once, at slide 15, as the screen that suggests the next reply.
- Familiar faces and screens carry the hook. Looksmax apps score South Park or Young Sheldon characters, and ringtone apps mock an iPhone incoming-call screen whose ringtone builds into a remix. Hook wording barely moves either format.
- The number reveal hasn't crossed to the US. Silent "LOVE that nurse pay" shock faces and Australian grocery-budget rants pull up to 1.46 million views, but LightReel found no comparable US-retailer versions.

“This is a volume-lottery format.”
“Formats 1 and 2 are also dominated by single app programs (Cantina and Plug AI), so copy fast before more apps arrive.”
