Infinite software is not a product

I read Valentine Watkins's Software is now user-generated content in August and took notes in a Reading digest. He says vibe coding knocked computer code into the same pile as comments and other user-generated content. App Store submissions can explode while people still don't adopt the apps. The old launch channels can't carry that volume. He calls it infinite software, and he thinks the missing layer is discovery: new platforms that host and feed generated widgets.

Infinite generated software is a category, not a product. A product is a named tool I can come back to, change, and be responsible for. A feed of generated widgets doesn't do that. If I'm running a hub, I still have to say which live tools are the work.

AI Chartsis a model scoreboard. It ranks named models on named harnesses. A scoreboard isn't a discovery feed of generated apps, and it doesn't name the tools I ship.

I already wrote the factory stack down in Building a software factory: 15 Codex subscriptions, KB, Direct, Wrench, Hra, and the rest of the named surfaces. Those are the live tools. Generated code that never lands on a named host is more user-generated content.

Peter Naur's The theory is the product is why I don't treat generated text as the product either. The product is the theory held by the people who can still modify the work. Generated text is a carrier. Infinite software without that theory dies the same death, just faster.
